Wilkes Literacy 2024 Gingerbread House Festival
Wilkes Literacy is pleased to announce the 2024 Gingerbread House Festival, a celebration of the holiday season. The Gingerbread House Festival will be a family event where visitors will have the opportunity to walk through and view the creative gingerbread houses from local contributors. Each gingerbread house will reflect the personality and style of Wilkes and all that makes our county a great place to live.
Wilkes Literacy’s 2024 Gingerbread House Festival will be hosted by The 1915 Event Venue in downtown Wilkesboro from Friday, December 6 through Saturday, December 7, The 1915 building will be transformed into a Christmas gingerbread wonderland.

What are the dates and hours?
The Wilkes Literacy Gingerbread House Festival will begin Friday, December 6 and continue through Saturday night, December 7. Hours are are 10 AM to 8 PM.
Is there a charge for admission?
This event will be FREE to our community. Those attending the event will have the opportunity to donate to Wilkes Literacy toward the cost of providing the event.
Can I buy a gingerbread house to take home with me?
YES! As a way to raise funds for Wilkes Literacy’s program, gingerbread houses will be available for silent auction. The silent auction will end at 6 PM on Saturday, December 7. Winners can pick up their houses from 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Saturday, December 7 at the 1915 Event Venue. Wilkes Literacy will accept cash, credit card, and Apple Pay.
What about parking and the event entrance?
The main entrance to the Wilkes Literacy Gingerbread House Festival will be on Main Street. The 1915 Event Venue is a fully handicapped accessible facility with an entrance ramp.
Parking can be found on Main Street and beside The 1915 Event Venue. Additional parking is located throughout downtown Wilkesboro.
Can children attend?
Yes! Children are very welcome to attend. We will have family suggestions to make your visit to the Gingerbread House Festival a fun and memorable holiday celebration.
Do I need to be a gingerbread house master builder to enter?
No! The Wilkes Literacy Gingerbread House Festival is for everyone, no matter your expertise. This is a festival to celebrate the creativity and style that is unique to Wilkes County.
Who Can Enter a Gingerbread House?
Anyone can enter the gingerbread house festival. Gingerbread house entry is free. All ages are welcome. Please view the Gingerbread House Entry Page and the Baker’s Guide for more information.
What about local businesses?
Local businesses are encouraged to enter a gingerbread house that reflects the style and personality of their business. This is a great opportunity to showcase your business to Wilkes County!
Can my business or organization sponsor this event?

Are there Awards?
Yes! Cash prizes will be awarded in “professional” and “amateur” categories. Anyone may enter the “just for fun” category. ALL houses in every category are eligible for the People’s Choice award.
