Wilkes Literacy is pleased to announce the 2024 Gingerbread House Festival, a celebration of the holiday season. The Gingerbread House Festival will be a family event where visitors will have the opportunity to walk through and view the creative gingerbread houses from local contributors. Each gingerbread house will reflect the personality and style of Wilkes and all that makes our county a great place to live.
Wilkes Literacy’s 2024 Gingerbread House Festival will be hosted by The 1915 Event Venue in downtown Wilkesboro on Friday and Saturday, December 6 and 7, The 1915 building will be transformed into a Christmas gingerbread wonderland.
Is there a charge for admission?
This event will be FREE to our community. Those attending the event will have the opportunity to donate to Wilkes Literacy toward the cost of providing the event.
Can I buy a gingerbread house to take home with me?
YES! As a way to raise funds for Wilkes Literacy’s program, gingerbread houses will be available for silent auction. The silent auction will end at 6 PM on Saturday, December 7. Winners can pick up their houses from 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Saturday, December 7 at the 1915 Event Venue. Wilkes Literacy will accept cash, credit card, and Apple Pay.
Gingerbread entry to enter a gingerbread house in the 2024 Wilkes Literacy Gingerbread House Festival is now closed. We are grateful to have 56 houses entered in this year’s festival!
Contest Divisions
Professional - This category is intended for skilled professionals and is open to all chefs, restaurateurs, artists, designers, and anyone who wants to compete on an advanced level. Please see Baker’s Guide for Rules.
Adult Amateur - This category is intended for novice bakers and is open to all individuals, school groups, churches, businesses, families, and anyone who wants to compete on novice level. Please see Baker’s Guide for Rules.
Under 18 Amateur - This category is intended for novice bakers under the age of 18 and is open to all individuals, school groups, churches, businesses, families, and anyone who wants to compete on novice level. Please see Baker’s Guide for Rules.
Just for Fun - Open to individuals or groups who want to donate to the fundraising auction in a non-competitive manner. Entries using store bought gingerbread kits will enter “just for fun.” Contest construction rules do not apply to "just for fun" homes except for size and delivery/pickup terms.
Awards will be given to winners in the Professional and Amateur categories. ALL entries in the three categories will be eligible for the People’s Choice Award. Awards will be presented on Saturday afternoon, December 7.
